How I Transformed My Hair from Brassy Blonde to Platinum

Hey there!

I’m back with a different kind of post than I normally go for! I know that my main focus for this blog is makeup (mainly eyeshadow), but I wanted to share my hair-care with you guys because I’m vey happy with the routine I have down! I’ve tried a lot of different products to make my hair super light and to get rid of the brassy color, and I finally found a few that work perfectly for me. Keep reading if you’re interested in how I went from a yellow-blonde to a white-blonde!

I started getting my hair highlighted when I was 13 and I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing that! I have an amazing hairdresser who knows exactly what I want my hair to look like, and she makes me the absolute perfect shade of blonde every time. Before this year, though, I used cheap shampoos and conditioners because I didn’t really think those would affect the appearance of my hair. Typically, a few weeks after getting my hair highlighted, it would start to turn brassy and yellow, which I didn’t like at all. I have very ashy hair naturally, so there was a huge contrast between the ends of my hair and my roots (which you can see in the picture on the left).

The picture on the right shows my hair looking a little brassy, but this was taken once I started to use a better shampoo and conditioner. My hair was less damaged in that one because I began to take better care of my hair. I think the color looked really good at that time, but I definitely still wanted to go lighter and more neutral. After both of these pictures were taken, I started to look for purple shampoos so that I could try to tone my hair, and it took me a long time to finally find a brand I loved.

My roommate last semester let me try her purple shampoo by Joico, and I fell in love with their products! The color of the actual shampoo is dark purple, which is different from the lavender color of all the other shampoos I’d tried before. I used it a couple times just to get a feel for how it worked before finally going out and buying my own bottle. There was a sale going on at Ulta, so I decided to get the shampoo, conditioner, and a hair mask by the same brand.

I don’t use these products every single time I wash my hair because I don’t need to tone my hair during every wash. I use the Pantene Moisture Renewal shampoo and conditioner , which makes my hair silky and smooth without ruining the color or tone of my highlights. After toning my hair, the color holds for a few washes afterwards, so I can go a while using my other shampoo. When I want to get the brassiness out of my hair and get it to be extremely light, though, I have a specific routine that I follow.

First, I wash my hair with the purple shampoo and leave it in for about 10 minutes. I typically do this while I’m in the shower, but I have washed my hair in the sink before and put it in a shower cap to let it set. Then, I wash out the shampoo thoroughly and put the hair mask in. This mask brightens my hair, while the shampoo tones it, so the color looks amazing in the end! Once the hair mask has set in my hair for about 5-8 minutes, I rinse it out and put the conditioner in. I don’t let this set in my hair for too long, and I normally leave it in for about 3-5 minutes. After going through my entire routine, I blow-dry my hair because it always ends up looking lighter when I do.

That’s it for my lightening-and-toning hair routine! I’m very happy with the products I’ve been using and I love how my hair turns out every time! It took a lot of trying different products to finally find some that work best for me, and I would recommend these to anyone who’s looking to make their hair icy-blonde. If you have any other products that you think I should try, please let me know! I’m always on the lookout for new hair products that will make mine even lighter and brighter!

Little Life Update

Hey guys! ♥

Sorry I’ve been absolutely M.I.A. lately! My fourth semester of college really caught me off guard and I’ve been crazy busy with school, my new job, and trying to get some sleep every once in a while. I haven’t had very much time to do my crazy eye makeup and get some posts up! I’ve been feeling really defeated because of my lack of time and energy to work on posting regularly, but I’m really trying to figure out some times to post a little bit.

I wanted to update you all on my life really quickly in between studying for the insane amount of tests I have in the next couple of weeks. Life has been hectic, but I’m hanging in there and still LOVE makeup as much as I did when I was posting on a more regular basis. I’ve done a few fun looks for different events that I haven’t written about yet, so I wanted to share some of those here!

#1. Sorority Formal

Of course, the only selfie I took the entire night is one that I used on my Instagram story. Go figure! I really loved this look, though, and can’t believe how great it turned out! I used a few different palettes, including my usual Morphe 25C as well as the new James Charles Artistry palette. Spoiler alert: I’m obsessed with James’ new palette! I also did a half cut crease because, honestly, what’s new?? I toned my hair with the new purple shampoo I’ve been obsessing over too, so if you guys want to see a review on my hair care nowadays I can definitely do that!

#2. EDM Concert

So these are definitely not the highest quality pictures I’ve ever taken, but I knew I’d want to post them here so I made sure to have a couple! I did my own makeup for this concert, but I also did my friend’s makeup (who’s in the first picture with me). We both wanted to go for an icy blue look and I think both looks turned out amazing! I used the James Charles palette once again, as well as the Morphe 35V palette. I can’t stop using blue eyeshadows right now and this was the perfect occasion to be creative with my eyeshadow!

#3. Random Eye Look

Okay, so there was one night that I didn’t have too much to do and I decided to play around with (you guessed it!) the James Charles palette. Obviously this one has become a staple in my makeup collection, and I’m pretty sure I use it every time I put any amount of color on my eyelids. I used my NYX Vivid Brights purple liquid eyeliner with a little bit of ColourPop “From the Valley” liquid eyeshadow on top to get a glittery wing. Then for inner corner highlight I had to use the ABH Moon Child Glowkit, and I used the shade “Blue Moon.” I’ve wanted to write about this look SO BAD but couldn’t find the time to write out an entire post, but if you want a more detailed description on this look, please let me know! I think it turned out so cool and so pretty!

#4. Travis Scott Concert

I may or may not have wanted to include these pictures in this post just to rave about Travis Scott…that’s okay though, right?! It’s a little hard to see the colors I used on my eyes because I didn’t take these specifically for blogging purposes, but I used my Morphe 25C palette and used different shades of pink. It’s also a half cut crease, which is my new go-to look nowadays. I think my makeup turned out super fun and girly for this concert and I loved this look! I tend to use bold colors way more than neutrals, but I think pink is my new “neutral” color for eyeshadows. Incase you were wondering, by the way, Travis Scott was amazing!

I hope you’re not too annoyed with me for being a flaky blogger lately, but I promise that once my schedule calms down I’ll get some more looks posted! Thank you all for hanging in there with me! And I hope you enjoyed looking at some of the looks that I’ve done in the last couple of months! If there’s a specific look that you want me to post about more in-depth, don’t hesitate to contact me and let me know. Also, if you’d like to see different kinds of posts about hair care or skin care, I’ve been working on getting steady routines down and would love to share what I like so far. Once again, thank you for continuing to follow and support me! xoxo
