Night Out Makeup Look

Typically when I leave the house at night, I tend to wear neutral colors on my eyes. My comfort zone has always been warm brown tones and not too much color, unless I’m blogging about it. Now that I’ve become more confident in wearing a little bit of color on my eyes, though, I’ve decided to incorporate more fun colors into my looks when I do decide to go out. I came up with this fun purple look the other day and I’ve been obsessed ever since! Keep reading to find out how I accomplished the look shown below.

I started this look by packing the pink-purple matte shade from the Morphe 25C palette onto my outer corner, blending it inward. This palette is one of my favorites and I use it so much that I included it in my Best of Makeup 2018 post! I made sure to take a clean fluffy brush to blend out the edges and give the color a gradient effect. Then I took the dark plum shade from the Jaclyn Hill palette and packed it onto my outer corner where I originally put the previous shade. I packed on the color, blended it out, and repeated this process until I achieved the blend and pigment that I wanted. I needed to darken the look a little bit more, so I added a small amount of black from the same 25C palette to the outer corner and continued to blend that in with my other colors. It took me a while to get the shape and pigmentation I wanted, but all I had to do was keep packing shadows on then blend them out!

Since it had been a while since I’d done a cut-crease, I decided to do one for this look. I used Tarte Shape Tape, as I describe in this post, then blended the outer corner concealer out with my finger. I packed the same colors I used in my crease onto the outer half of my lid to make sure the eye looked gradient and cohesive, then packed the silver shimmer from the Morphe 35K palette onto the rest of my eyelid. I finished the look by using one of the highlight shades from the Jaclyn Hill palette, popped on some false lashes by Ardell, and used mascara to blend my real eyelashes with the falsies.

I love how this look turned out! I’m so happy that I’m figuring out new ways to add some color into my makeup for nights out. I usually stick to wearing warm neutral tones when I leave the house, but nowadays I’m starting to become more confident with wearing color. This look is perfect for a night out, paired with a nude or dark lip and a bold cheek highlight. It did take quite a bit of blending, but the end result is gorgeous and I can’t wait to incorporate more colors into my eye looks when I go out on the weekends!

Best of Makeup 2018

Last year was an insanely great one for makeup lovers! Between the much-needed expansion in foundation shades, to the tons of new palettes released, to some of the best collaborations, it was an amazing (and expensive!) year for everyone invested in the beauty industry. There has been so much makeup to try out and review that it can be a little overwhelming, but there is truly a product for everyone nowadays!

Personally, I have grown a lot in the last year with makeup. A year ago I never thought I would have a beauty blog, but now here I am! I spent the last half of 2018 trying to capture my creativity through eye looks, and teaching others about eye makeup and its application. I’ve learned a lot about makeup and what I love about it in the last year, which I reflected on in my previous post, “Why Do I Love Makeup?” I’ve gotten more confident in trying crazy colors on my eyes, as well as in doing makeup on other people. Last year was one to remember and appreciate, so to give a shoutout to 2018 I collected my ten favorite beauty products that I used all year. These are the staples in my makeup collection, the ones I can’t live without, and the products you’ll probably recognize from previous posts of mine!

1. Real Techniques Beauty Sponge

The most important parts of makeup application are the tools you use, so my first favorite product is obviously going to include my #1s. I’m obsessed with the Real Techniques Beauty Sponge because it makes foundation and concealer blend into your skin so effortlessly and naturally, without leaving streaks or patches. You can also use your sponge and a little loose powder to set your face, which is what I do most days to avoid shininess. In addition to this amazing little sponge, I’ve also been obsessed with the Real Techniques face brushes and decided they deserve an honorable mention.

2. Maybelline Superstay Foundation

I used this foundation for the majority of 2018 and I wouldn’t trade it for the world! It absolutely covers everything but still manages to look like real skin. I really believe this foundation is magic in a bottle and I’d recommend everyone to try it out! You can put a little bit onto your sponge and make it look super natural, but then add a little more and you have a true full-coverage foundation. This formula lives up to its name and it’s definitely one of the best drugstore foundations I’ve tried.

3. ColourPop Highlighter in “Flexitarian”

Just from glancing at the picture of this highlighter, I’m sure you can see how bright and shimmery this product is. I use this on my inner corner almost every time I do my eye makeup and I don’t think I’ll ever stop! It’s super easy to apply and blend into your skin as a face highlighter too. I’ve found that you can use a brush for a more natural highlight, but use your finger to get some crazy shimmer on your cheekbones. And for the price, this product just can’t be beat!

4. Morphe Setting Spray

I’ve been searching for the perfect setting spray since I started doing my makeup, but could never find one that was exactly what I wanted. Most setting sprays are harsh and leave water marks on your face, but this one will never do that. It comes in an aerosol can so that the product sprays your face evenly and gently, and it makes your makeup last forever!

5. Jaclyn Hill Palette by Morphe

It’s no secret that this palette is the most-used in my collection. You can tell just by looking at it that I use it like crazy! It’s the perfect palette for any type of look, whether you want a very neutral look or a pop of color. The shadows are extremely easy to blend and the shimmers are super pigmented. If you haven’t already tried this one out, I recommend you get around to purchasing it in 2019!

6. 25C Palette by Morphe

I might have a slight obsession with Morphe eyeshadows, but I’m sure that’s nothing new to you! I recently fell in love with this palette for it’s brown tones, but also found that I can’t stay away from the pops of color. I’m a huge fan of warm-toned eyeshadows in my everyday life and this palette catered to my needs big time. It has become one of my most-used, up there with the Jaclyn Hill palette.

7. Zulu Palette by Juvia’s Place

This. Palette. Wow! I hadn’t used many bright colors before I purchased this, but once I bought it I was drawn into the world of crazy eyeshadow looks. Almost every time I create a look incorporating some kind of crazy color, you can be sure that this palette was involved. I give all the credit to this palette for sparking my interest in colorful looks and I’m so happy that I found it!

8. Stila Magnificent Metals

It’s no question that these were the biggest trend of 2018. I’m not sure if I could name more than a few people in my life who haven’t tried these, and everyone who has loves them! With so many different color choices and varying levels of glitteriness, you just can’t stay away from these guys! Every time I want to do a fun look for going out, I pop one of these onto my lid and I’m ready to go. This is another one of those products that you just have to try; I promise you’ll love them!

9. NYX Glitters

Alright, so I’m obviously a glitter-addict. When I have a big event to go to, like a formal, I reach for these loose glitters. They’re beautiful and extremely easy to apply, and they last for the entire night. These take a little bit more effort and focus than the Stila Magnificent Metals, but they’re definitely worth it when the look is complete!

10. Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors

I’ve tried a decent amount of lip products this year, but I still go back to the same one. The formula and color selection of these liquid lips are hard to beat, and they’re super affordable! I’ve been using these for years, but I really started to try tons of different shades throughout 2018. These are some of the best lipsticks on the market right now and I can’t wait to try even more colors!

This concludes my favorite products from 2018 and trust me when I recommend every single one of these. I tried out a lot of different products throughout the year, but these are the ones that I knew I couldn’t leave out. I’m so excited to try new products and improve my skills in the upcoming year, and to hopefully continue to teach all of you a little something about makeup. Thank you for supporting my blog in 2018, and thanks in advance for continuing to read and support in 2019! It’s going to be a great year for makeup!
